Terms to Know About Hair Color:
Babylights: A very fine version of highlights that mimic the natural look of hair that was slightly lightened by the sun.
Balayage: A hair lightening technique that involves hand painting strands for a natural looking, easy to maintain color. It is meant to look natural as it grows out.
Base Color: Your root color.
Bronde: A shade that blends brown and blonde hair together for a sun kissed look. It is often done when balayage.
Contrast: Refers to the depth of your highlights, more noticeable or more natural looking.
Double Process: A two-step process to lighten hair and then a second step to tone hair.
Foiling: When a colorist paints your hair inside strips of foil.
Money Piece: Refers to a section at the front of the hair which is highlighted or colored for a high contrast look.
Ombre’: A low maintenance look that is the result of diffused balayage highlights. Strands are colored from mid-shaft to ends to create a fade.
Permanent: A dye that when mixed with a developer generally changes your hair color. It can fade over time.
Semi-permanent: A glaze or color that lays over your hair. It will enrich or darken but not lighten your hair color. It lasts 3-4 weeks.
Single Process: A one-step permanent hair color process to change your base color for up to 6 weeks.
Temporary: Powders, sprays, and bottled color that shampoos out.
